Public Program | Discussion and Book Presentation: “Qualitative Freedom: Self-Determination in Cosmopolitan Responsibility – Questions about Sociological and Ecological Sustainability”
On April 4, 2017, the Aspen Institute Germany and the Liberal Club Berlin-Brandenburg will host an evening discussion with Prof. Dr. Claus Dierksmeier, director of the Global Ethic Institute at the University of Tübingen. Together with Rüdiger Lentz, executive director at the Aspen Institute Germany and Carola von Braun, speaker of the Liberal Club Berlin-Brandenburg, he will discuss the topic “Qualitative Freedom: Self-Determination in Cosmopolitan Responsibility – Questions about Sociological and Ecological Sustainability” and will present the most important hypotheses from his book of the same name (“Qualitative Freiheit: Selbstbestimmung in weltbürgerlicher Verantwortung – Fragen zur soziologischen und ökologischen Nachhaltigkeit”). According to Prof. Dierksmeier, individual freedom includes the responsibility to make socially and ecologically sustainable use of it. The quality of our freedom should thus take priority and we should consider maximizing those liberties that serve the freedom of all world citizens.
