Leadership Program I Discussion on „First-ism vs. Multilateralism: Donald Trump’s Revolution of Foreign Policy and its Implications for the Western Community of Values“
On September 4, 2018, the Aspen Leadership Program and Till Staffeldt, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Leadership Seminar alumnus, hosted a moderated dialog on the topic “First-ism vs. Multilateralism: Donald Trump’s Revolution of Foreign Policy and its Implications for the Western Community of Values“. Dr. Gunther Hellmann, Professor for Political Science at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University of Frankfurt and board member of the Aspen Institute Germany, and Dr. Nikolas Busse, managing editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Woche, discussed Donald Trump’s presidency that marked a radical rupture in transatlantic cooperation and communication and has wide implications for Germany’s security and the security of the European Union. The increasing loss of trust in US decision-makers has caused many to perceive this moment as decisive for the future of Europe and Germany within it. How Europe and Germany should position themselves on the international stage in the Trump era was just one point that was discussed with our Leadership Alumni in Frankfurt am Main.
