Policy Program I Aspen NEXT Transatlantic Workshop
From June 12-14, 2019, the Aspen Institute will hold its fifth Transatlantic Workshop. This year’s workshop will inaugurate the Aspen NEXT initiative, a dedicated effort to engage the next generation of Atlanticists.
2019 marks the thirtieth anniversary of an exceptional moment in history: the fall of the Berlin Wall, the invention of the world wide web and the violent suppression of the pro-democracy student protests on Tiananmen Square. How have events – then and since – defined, changed or challenged the value sets that underlie our societies, political systems and institutions? Do we see differences in value hierarchies between now and then?
The two-day workshop will bring together a group of young professionals between the age of 25 and 35 from Germany, the US and throughout Europe to discuss how value systems have changed in the last thirty years and which lessons can be drawn for the future of the transatlantic relations.
