    Public Program | Discussion: “NATO at 70: Continued Success or Imminent Decline?”
    On June 19, 2019, the Aspen Institute Germany will host a debate on the topic “NATO at 70: Continued Success or Imminent Decline?” with Christiane Hoffmann, Diplomatic Correspondent, Der Spiegel, Ambassador Dr. Hans-Dieter Lucas, Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Germany to the North Atlantic Council, and Dr. Andrew Michta, Dean, College of International and Security Studies, George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies. The event will begin with an input statement on multilateralism by Hendrik Meijer, author of “Arthur Vandenberg: The Man in the Middle of the American Century.” The subsequent discussion will address NATO’s current and future direction beyond the 2 percent debate. We will discuss both Germany’s and the NATO partners’ commitment to the alliance, internal and external challenges that must be confronted by NATO, and how we can ensure future cooperation and success within the alliance.
