Munich Security Conference (MSC) 2025
Since 2024, Aspen Institute Germany has participated in the Munich Security Conference (MSC). Aspen Germany executed an exciting agenda for the recent MSC, February 14-16, 2025.
In addition, Aspen Germany co-hosted an event, in collaboration with the Southeast Europe Association e.V. (SOG), to discuss the role of youth engagement to enhance peace and security in the Balkan region. The roundtable event, Inherited Insecurity: Why Youth Engagement Matters for Reconciliation in the Western Balkans, provided a platform to hear from two Youth Activists from the Western Balkans who are reshaping the security landscapes in their local communities. The event took place on Friday, February 14 at 10:00 am.
An annual highlight of the Munich Security Conference was the women’s only dinner organized by FRAUEN100. This year, Aspen Institute Germany was pleased to support this valuable and necessary dinner, which was co-hosted by FRAUEN100 and Goals House, with support from Gates Foundation. The evening was dedicated to networking in solidarity among female voices in international relations. This year’s theme of the evening was: “Safeguarding peace and development: Why female leaders are needed in international relations now more than ever,” and took place on Friday, February 14.
Aspen Germany hosted an official MSC Side-Event in the format of a panel discussion to explore the role influencers play in information production and dissemination and inspire deeper reflection on how their impact can either bolster or threaten democracies. This event, Scrolling for the Truth: Rethinking Influencers as the First Line of Defense Against Disinformation in Central and Eastern Europe, was moderated by Dr. Stormy-Annika Mildner, and featured three Central and Eastern European influencers, including one from Ukraine, a government representative, and a speaker from one of the major social media platforms. The event took place on Saturday, February 15 at 11:30 am.
Aspen Germany co-hosted, with the Transatlantic Hub, a panel discussion on Geopolitics and the Future of Social Media to explore the intersection of social media platforms and geopolitics, examine the role of content creators, and discuss strategies for navigating an uncertain digital future in a rapidly evolving global geopolitical landscape. The discussion featured social media content creators/influencers, high-level government representatives, and tech companies for their insight on this timely topic. The event took place on Saturday, February 15, at 3:30 pm.
Finally, Aspen Germany also organized a side event with our former executive director Rüdiger Lentz and Rud Pedersen Public Affairs, as well as the American Council on Germany. This exclusive roundtable featured high-level discussions on security and the transatlantic community.
Aspen Germany is happy to have fostered many relevant, significant and interesting conversations at the 61st MSC. If you are interested in receiving more information, please contact Molly Hall at hall@aspeninstitute.de.
