As the international landscape continues to evolve, Aspen Institute Germany remains committed to its mission of fostering transatlantic dialogue, strengthening democratic resilience, and bringing together leaders from politics, business, academia, media, and civil society to address shared challenges. This year’s Annual General Meeting offered an opportunity to reflect on the Institute’s progress, discuss its strategic priorities, and reaffirm the strong leadership that guides its work.
Aspen Germany’s Board of Trustees and Management Board play a vital role in shaping the Institute’s strategic direction, expanding its network, and ensuring that it continues to serve as an independent and trusted platform for dialogue. Their guidance and commitment are essential as the Institute grows its programs, strengthens its partnerships, and responds to an increasingly complex geopolitical environment.
This year’s meeting on June 17, 2026, combined continuity with renewal. Members re-elected Cecilie Rohwedder to the Board of Trustees, while Britt Eckelmann, Margit Lehwalder, and Ulrich Plett were confirmed for new terms on the Management Board. Their continued service reflects the experience, expertise, and dedication that have helped shape Aspen Germany’s development over recent years.
The Institute also warmly welcomed Prof. Dr. Andrea Römmele to the Management Board. An internationally recognized political scientist and Professor at the Hertie School, she brings extensive expertise in democratic governance, political communication, and public leadership. Her experience and perspective will further strengthen the Institute’s work and its ability to convenemeaningful dialogue across sectors and across the Atlantic.
The meeting further marked an important moment of gratitude. Following his retirement from Goethe University Frankfurt, Prof. Dr. Günther Hellmann stepped down from the Management Board after many years of distinguished service. A respected scholar of international relations and long-standing member of Aspen Germany’s leadership, he has contributed significantly to the Institute’s intellectual profile and strategic development. Aspen Germany extends its heartfelt thanks for his unwavering commitment, wise counsel, and lasting contributions to the Institute and its mission.
Looking ahead, Board members discussed the Institute’s strategic priorities, organizational development, and the future composition of its governing bodies. Against a backdrop of profound geopolitical, economic, and technological change, they reaffirmed a shared commitment to ensuring that Aspen Germany remains a leading transatlantic platform – one that convenes diverse perspectives, fosters constructive exchange, and develops practical solutions to the defining challenges of our time.
