In 2017, the Aspen Institute Germany held two sub-cabinet level meetings in Alt Madlitz and Sarajevo with high-level decision-makers and experts from the Western Balkan countries, Germany, and the EU. During these meetings, discussions focused on the economic development of the Western Balkans, the perspective of the region’s youth, as well as the rising notions of populism, nationalism, and authoritarianism in the Western Balkans and beyond. This edited volume gives an overview of the topics discussed and lays out policy recommendations.
