Analyzing the goals of the AUKUS alliance and international reactions to the new military alliance in the Indo-Pacific, the authors look at the group’s role in the Western security architecture and the role of the EU. They conclude that the Western partners should devise a division of labor with European foreign and security policy focusing more on the European neighborhood and the United States being active in the Indo-Pacific region. At the same time, the EU should not neglect the Indo-Pacific.
