This year’s Aspen Institute summer reception will take place on June 12. As always, the event begins with an exciting panel discussion, this time entitled “Blunt or Shameless? On tone, tact and taboos in politics”.
The aim is to shed light on how we talk to and about each other in a political context – and what influence this has on our society. Looking back at the key debates of recent years and especially the 2025 federal election campaign, we want to ask ourselves what role language, tone and medium play in the dynamics of our debates and the division of our society. What is the relationship between clear political positioning and respectful interaction? How can nuanced discourse work in the world of short-form content? And where is the line between entertaining contentiousness and inflammatory accusation?
The panel discussion will take place in German.
After the discussion, we want to round off the evening with a an evening reception and good conversation.
