The recent #InfluencersAgainstDisinfo: Empowering Online Opinion Leaders to Enhance Democratic Resilience in the Age of Information Manipulation Berlin Study Trip from October 16th-18th, provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of Germany’s strategic approach to combating disinformation. The program began with a valuable presentation by the projects funders, the German Federal Foreign Office, represented by Sophia Armanski, Head of Unit Strategic Communication, followed by an in-depth Ethical Code of Conduct Workshop, where influencers and content creators examined advanced principles in accountability and effective online community management. Key engagements included discussions at the Bundestag with MP Tobias Bacherle from the Green Party’s Committee on Digital Affairs, where we explored the roles of government and civil society in enhancing resilience against disinformation. A visit to Meta’s Berlin office provided insight into the platform’s methodologies for addressing online engagement and misinformation. The study trip concluded with an exclusive briefing at the Federal Press Office, where the Social Media Team and Disinformation Unit outlined Germany’s proactive measures to mitigate misinformation targeting government and public authorities. This valuable experience emphasized the critical need for cross-sector collaboration to promote an accountable, transparent information environment. We look forward to our upcoming digital workshops and the Warsaw study trip scheduled for early 2025. For more information on the study trip and the project, click here. The project is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and supported by the Aspen Institutes Central Europe and Aspen Institute Kyiv.
