AI Tech Dialogues: AI & the Future of Security – AI, Critical Infrastructure and Security

    • March 13, 2025
  • -
    • March 13, 2025

The second event of the 2025 AI Tech Dialogue will delve into the nexus between critical and essential infrastructure and AI. Critical and essential infrastructure is the backbone of modern and well-functioning societies. Yet, it faces a growing number of threats due to a myriad of factors including the interconnected nature of the modern world as well as the growing mistrust of government, media, and established institutions. Due to interdependencies, the disruption, corruption, or dysfunction of critical and essential infrastructure in one sector often has dramatic consequences for the whole society.
Geopolitical conflicts, geo-economic confrontations, and the revival of great power competition have incited both physical attacks and cyberattacks on critical infrastructure. At the same time, the utilization of AI in critical and essential infrastructure can also create new vulnerabilities. In particular, it can increase the risk of cyberattacks. Thus, malicious actors can exploit AI, utilizing AI to create sophisticated evasion and attack techniques. The adoption of AI in critical and essential infrastructure raises many concerns about cybersecurity, accountability, and the need for human oversight. Thus, AI in critical and essential infrastructure needs to be carefully managed.
By bringing together key players from international institutions, governments, and the private sector, this event – hosted in collaboration with Microsoft Germany – will explore how international institutions, governments, and private entities can apply the strengths of AI to mitigate critical infrastructure security threats.
