AITech Dialogues: AI & the Future of Security – AI, Global Governance, and Security

    • December 05, 2024
  • -
    • December 05, 2024

The first event of the AITech Dialogues: AI & the Future of Security series will focus on the critical intersection of AI, security, and global governance, to emphasize the profound impact AI has on international security. As AI technologies develop at an unprecedented pace, they present both tangible opportunities and risks that would be best managed through coordinated, effective global frameworks. State-led initiatives by the G7 and G20 have made considerable progress in promoting trustworthy AI principles, yet the complexity and oftentimes slow pace of diplomatic processes highlight the urgent need for more agile and coordinated governance mechanisms. The fragmented landscape of global AI governance presents additional challenges. Addressing these challenges requires coordinated efforts and engagement with multiple stakeholders. Recent developments like the European Union’s AI Act offer a potential framework for future supranational regulation. However, due to the diverse applications of AI, a one-size-fits-all approach to governance is impractical. Instead, there should be a focus on ensuring regulatory interoperability and inclusive access to AI development and research. Furthermore, developing domain-specific policies that address particular risks and challenges within different sectors could lead to more effective and tailored governance solutions, ultimately bolstering global security. By bringing together key players from international institutions, governments, and the private sector, this event – hosted in collaboration with Microsoft Germany – will explore how international institutions, governments, and private entities can collaborate to shape AI policies that enhance global security while also creating an environment that fosters innovation and growth.
