Public opinion serves as a barometer of a nation’s political mood, influencing the narratives that dominate election campaigns and the decisions made by elected leaders. In both the United States and Europe, public sentiment is not only a reflection of current issues but also a predictor of policy direction, from domestic agendas to foreign relations. At the same time, the rise of disinformation, polarization, and the complex relationship between media, politics, and voter behavior adds new challenges to interpreting public opinion accurately. As part of the U.S. Election Speaker Series, this event invites Bruce Stokes, Visiting Senior Fellow at the German Marshall Fund and expert on public opinion polling, transatlantic relations, and trade policy, to explore the electoral mood in the United States and the implications that polling has for policy and governance in both Europe and the United States.
