The world is witnessing a seismic shift in U.S. foreign policy – a strategic reorientation that is reshaping America’s engagement with the EU and the global order at large. From a growing focus on domestic priorities to recalibrated alliances and selective international commitments, the United States appears to be reassessing the very foundations of its global leadership. This evolving stance raises critical questions: Is the United States stepping back from its traditional role as guarantor of Western stability? Could a more transactional or inward-looking United States leave behind a strategic vacuum and with it, growing global uncertainty? At this pivotal moment, the transatlantic relationship stands at a threshold. How should Europe respond and what kind of ambition must it summon to shape the international order alongside, or apart from, the United States? Can Europeans craft a unified global strategy despite internal divides? The Aspen Institute Germany hosted an insightful discussion on the threats, opportunities, and future visions for U.S.-European relations as we navigate an emerging new world order. The event took place under the Chatham House Rule.
The Institute was delighted to welcome following speakers to the panel:
