On April 8, 2025, the Aspen Institute Germany in cooperation with Telefónica Germany will host a “Digital Dish” event on the topic “Next Level Digitalization: Smart. Secure. Fit for the Future?”. The 2025 federal election has put Germany’s digital future in the spotlight. The new government must strengthen digital sovereignty and drive technological expansion to reduce economic and security dependencies. To achieve this, Germany needs resilient infrastructures and its own key technologies, particularly in the areas of cloud computing, semiconductors, mobile networks and encryption.
A key focus is the expansion of digital infrastructures to secure economic competitiveness and modernize the public sector. By 2026, the aim is to achieve nationwide 5G coverage and eliminate dead spots – without Chinese components in the core network. At the same time, European cooperation and investment in research and development are essential to keep pace technologically.
Digital transformation requires strategic decisions and close cooperation within the EU. Cybersecurity and data protection play a central role. To discuss these and other challenges, the Digital Dish brings together policy makers, experts and thought leaders. The aim is to shed light on the interface between digital priorities at the European level and the strategic goals of the new German government. Speakers to be announced.
