The Munich Security Conference convenes global leaders and experts from around the world to discuss national security and foreign policy concerns. Almost exactly three years after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the main topic at the 2025 MSC was once again Russia, Ukraine, western resolve, and transatlantic cohesion and resilience – but this time set against the backdrop of the start of Donald Trump’s second term as President of the United States and the upcoming German federal elections. On the sidelines of the MSC, we once again brought together security experts, diplomats, and politicians from the United States and Europe for an exclusive discussion about the future of transatlantic security in light of current and upcoming changes and challenges. This off-the-record, expert-exchange addressed prospects of a possible cease-fire or peace accord for Ukraine, further U.S. and European military and financial support until any agreement is reached, and the big question of how to efficiently secure and safeguard Ukraine’s security and independence in the future. Organized in cooperation with the American Council on Germany and Berlin Dialogue, the discussion, which took place in a small circle, was hosted by Rüdiger Lentz and moderated/co-hosted by Dr. Stormy-Annika Mildner and Steven E. Sokol. Participation was by invitation only.
