On June 15, 2026, a virtual meeting on the topic of “Transatlantic Recommendations” will take place for participants of the U.S.-German Forum on Future Agriculture 2026. The Aspen Institute Germany and its project partner, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, will welcome the sixteen participants of the 2026 cohort to the meeting. As part of the project, the institute brings together eight German and eight American farmers, as well as other agricultural stakeholders, to promote innovative approaches to sustainable agriculture and rural development and to strengthen transatlantic relations overall. In addition to the fundamental social, economic, and political importance of agriculture for rural regions, this fourth cohort will focus in particular on the core topic of swine and poultry production. In addition to the virtual meetings, this year’s cohort has already met in Hildesheim, Germany, from April 7 to April 11, 2026, and in Raleigh, North Carolina, from May 31 to June 4, 2026. During these meetings, participants discussed practical and policy solutions as well as opportunities for transatlantic cooperation, visited best-practice operations on site, and engaged with local representatives from government, business, and academia. The project is supported by the Transatlantic Program of the Federal Republic of Germany with funds from the European Recovery Program (ERP) of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK).
