How can livestock farming be made sustainable, economically viable, and fit for the future?
This question lies at the heart of the U.S.-German Forum Future Agriculture 2026, initiated by the Aspen Institute Germany in cooperation with implementing partner, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The project brings together 16 farmers and agricultural stakeholders from Germany and the United States to exchange innovative approaches to swine and poultry production, animal welfare, and transatlantic cooperation.
On April 22, 2026, the 7th virtual meeting will focus on discussing and refining the policy recommendations developed in previous workshops.
In addition to the virtual meetings, this year’s cohort has met in person from April 7 to April 11, 2026, in Hildesheim, Germany, and will meet from May 31 to June 4, 2026, in Raleigh, United States. During these meetings, participants will discuss practical and policy solutions as well as opportunities for transatlantic cooperation, visit best-practice sites, and engage with local representatives from politics, business, and academia.
The project is supported by the Transatlantic Program of the Federal Republic of Germany with funds from the European Recovery Program (ERP) of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE).
