At the second virtual meeting of the Future Cities Go Glocal initiative on December 3, 2025, participants took a closer look at how Berlin and New Delhi are governed. Through expert-led contributions, the session shed light on how urban political systems function and how city administrations can drive policy and real change. Shailaja Chandra, former Permanent Secretary to the Government of India and former Chief Secretary of Delhi, shared first-hand insights into the political landscape of New Delhi. Janina Walkenhorst, Research Associate at the Chair of Political Theory at the University of Potsdam, presented key aspects of Berlin’s governance structures and urban decision-making processes. By bringing these perspectives together, the session offered participants a clearer picture of how responsibilities and decision-making processes operate in both cities. It set the stage for a well-informed and forward-looking dialogue on the future of cities and urban governance. The project is supported by the Deutschen Klassenlotterie Stiftung Berlin.
