On April 14, the Aspen Institute Germany held the second workshop of the 2024-2025 German-American Trade and Tech Dialogue cycle. Titled “100 Days of Trump 2.0 – Tariffs, Executive Orders, and Musk’s Mandate,” the workshop reviewed the first 100 days of President Trump’s second term, offering a crucial window into his administration’s economic and trade priorities. From reviving tariffs and restructuring trade agreements to issuing executive orders that redefine U.S. industrial policy, the transatlantic economy faces significant uncertainty. The workshop featured two breakout sessions on the following topics: 1. “Cybersecurity & Policy Harmonization: What’s Next in the Transatlantic Relationship?,” and 2. “Navigating the Brave New Tariff World.” The purpose of the workshop was to assess the early moves of the administration, the ripple effects across the Atlantic, and the strategic choices confronting European policymakers and businesses. We were pleased to welcome the following speakers and moderators: Marjoree Chorlins, Senior Vice-President Europe, U.S. Chamber of Commerce; Prof. Dr. Lisandra Flach, Director of the ifo Center for International Economics; Molly Hall, Senior Program Officer, Aspen Institute Germany; Dr. Katrin Kamin, Senior Director for Government Affairs, Strategy | Geopolitics & International Relations, Siemens AG; Felix Kroll, Head of Cyber Foreign Policy and Cyber Security Coordination Staff, German Federal Foreign Office; Joanna LaHaie, Office Director for the Office of International Engagement and Capacity Building within the Cybersecurity and Digital Policy (CDP) Bureau, U.S. State Department; Dr. Sarah Lohmann, Non-Resident Fellow, American-German Institute; Angela Mans, Head of Foreign Trade and International Relations, German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA); Tim Maurer, Senior Director Cybersecurity Policy, Microsoft Corporation, Washington, D.C.; Dr. Stormy-Annika Mildner, Executive Director, Aspen Institute Germany; Bryant Trick, Assistant United States Trade Representative for Europe and the Middle East; Dr. Valentin Weber, Senior Research Fellow, Center for Geopolitics, Geoeconomics, and Technology, German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP).
