Artificial intelligence is rapidly emerging as a foundational technology with far-reaching economic, security, and geopolitical implications. Questions of competitiveness, technological sovereignty, and strategic dependencies are now inseparable from how AI is developed, governed, and deployed. This is where “Inside AI Briefings” by Aspen Germany comes in.
The year-long series comprises four exclusive breakfast briefings, organized in cooperation with AWS, bringing together policy makers, ministerial officials, and think tank experts. The aim is to provide timely, practice-oriented insights into the fast-evolving AI landscape.
Each session features leading experts who unpack complex issues such as global competition, supply chain dependencies, data governance, regulation, geopolitical dynamics, and barriers to innovation. The format bridges technical realities with policy considerations and creates a trusted space for informed dialogue.
By deepening participants’ understanding of how AI technologies are developed, deployed, scaled, and commercialized, the series strengthens digital policy expertise within the German government. It also contributes to a broader strategic debate on how Germany and the EU can foster responsible, competitive AI ecosystems while enhancing digital sovereignty.
Session 1: The Global AI Sector – Competition, Cooperation, and Dependencies
The opening session takes a closer look at the international AI landscape: How is global competition evolving? Where are new supply chain and infrastructure dependencies emerging? How concentrated are key markets and what strategic position do Germany and the EU occupy within the global AI landscape?
