On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, Aspen Germany hosted the second virtual meeting of its 2025 Laboratories of Democracy Initiative for the participating U.S. state legislators, Canadian provincial legislators, and German Landtagsabgeordnete entitled “Canada 101 – Federalism and Provincial Governance in Canada”. Petra Dolata, Associate Professor at the University of Calgary, Canada, joined the meeting as an expert and speaker. Prof. Dr. Dolata’s presentation and the subsequent joint exchange addressed the governance in Canada at the federal, provincial/territorial and local level to lay the foundation for all upcoming discussions in this project. The presentation provided an opportunity to learn more about the Canadian political system and the distribution of power and responsibilities. With regard to the focus topic of the fifth round of exchanges, a special emphasis is placed on social cohesion.
