On Tuesday, January 14, 2024, Aspen Germany hosted the third virtual meeting of the 2025 Laboratories of Democracy Initiative for the participating state and provincial legislators entitled “Germany 101 – The Division of Powers in German Federalism”. Dr. Johanna Schnabel, Lecturer and Researcher at the Chair of German Politics, Otto Suhr Institute of Political Science, Freie Universität Berlin, joined the meeting as an expert and speaker. Dr. Schnabel’s presentation and the subsequent joint exchange addressed governance in Germany at the federal, state, and local level to lay the foundation for all upcoming discussions in this project. The presentation provides an opportunity to learn more about the German political system and the distribution of power and responsibilities. With regard to the focus topic of the fifth round of exchanges, a special emphasis is placed on social cohesion.
