The Aspen Institute Germany had the opportunity to organize a panel discussion, in cooperation with FGS Global and the Representation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia to the Federal Government, called: “President Trump’s Second Term: Changing Tides in the Atlantic?” on April 10, 2025.
As the Trump administration reached the three-month mark, both the United States and its transatlantic partners are navigating an evolving political landscape. Decades-old partnerships are being called into question and core principles no longer apply. From domestic policy shifts in Washington to evolving foreign policy strategies, the Trump presidency set the stage for a potentially new era in U.S.-Europe relations even before it has reached its one-hundred-day mark. What key developments shaped the administration’s agenda so far? How are they being received at home and abroad? What do they signal for the future of transatlantic cooperation? These questions were part of this in-depth discussion on Trump’s early second presidency, the trajectory of U.S. domestic and foreign policy – and its ripple effects across the Atlantic.
The panelists were Nathanael Liminski, Minister for Federal, European and International Affairs and Media of North Rhine-Westphalia, Dr. Jana Puglierin, Head of Office and Senior Policy Fellow at the European Council of Foreign Relations, Richard Walters, Partner FGS Global, former Executive Director of the 2025 Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee, and Christoph Heusgen, Senior Advisor FGS Global, former Chairman of the Munich Security Conference. The conversation was moderated by Aspen Germany Director Dr. Stormy-Annika Mildner.
Our audience had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in the discussion. The event was followed by a reception.
