Two months before Election Day, we will delve into the competing visions both parties are offering to U.S. voters and how these messages are being received by the American public. We will explore the core values and issues that define what it means to be a Democrat or Republican in today’s political climate. Together with former American Ambassador to Germany John B. Emerson and Dr. Daniel S. Hamilton, Senior Fellow at the Foreign Policy Institute of Johns Hopkins University SAIS, we will consider what these competing visions mean for Europe and global affairs and assess the state of down-ballot races, examining how elections for Congress, state governments, and local offices might impact the transatlantic partnership. The discussion will be moderated by Tina Höfinghoff, founder of Transatlantic Hub. This virtual event is part of the Road to Election Series and co-organized by the Aspen Institute Germany, Transatlantic Hub, and the Johns Hopkins University SAIS Alumni Association in Germany. Please register to participate here.
The 2024 U.S. election will significantly shape the transatlantic political environment and policy landscape. Transatlantic organizations play an integral role in convening thought leaders, bringing a transatlantic perspective to U.S. and European domestic policy discussions, and influencing public discourse on both sides of the Atlantic. This will be particularly important in 2024, which is why the Aspen Institute Germany is pleased to partner with over 25 other transatlantic organizations and political foundations on the “Road to Election 2024” virtual event series. Information about all events in the series can be found at: www.roadtoelection.de. Running from January 2024 to January 2025, the virtual event series will host in-depth discussions and foster a vibrant exchange of ideas in the lead-up to the pivotal 2024 U.S. election. The initiative’s events will feature prominent researchers, policymakers, commentators, and civil society representatives, exploring diverse formats and a wide array of topics. From public polling and media impact to electoral demographics, the future of U.S. democracy, and pressing policy issues like trade and immigration, the “Road to Election” series aims to offer comprehensive insights for audiences in both the United States and Germany.
