The Aspen Institute Germany is delighted to have concluded the Road to Election series with this final special event: “America First, Europe Uncertain: The Next Four Years of Transatlantic Relations” on Monday, 20 January, 2025, 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
With our partners, the American-German Institute, Amerikahaus NRW, and the Amerikazentrum Hamburg, we explored Donald Trump’s policy proposals and the implications of his presidency on transatlantic relations in three core policy areas: Trade, security, and the transatlantic community of values. With the insights from experts and the possibility to deepen the discussion in breakout sessions, we organized a dynamic online-event, taking place ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration.
The discussion was held in English, and Aspen Germany’s Executive Director Dr. Stormy-Annika Mildner moderated the virtual panel. Co-moderators were Viktoria Harbecke, Director of the Amerikahaus NRW, and Katja Greeson, Transatlantic Program Director at Aspen Germany. Our audience had the chance to engage with the speakers and other participants in small-group breakout sessions.
Expert speakers were: Peter Rashish, Vice President and Director of the Geoeconomics Program, American-German Institute; Rachel Rizzo, Nonresident Senior Fellow, Atlantic Council; Laura Thornton, Senior Director for Global Democracy Programs, McCain Institute for International Leadership; Maria Skóra, Policy Fellow, Das Progressive Zentrum; Ian Brzezinski, Senior Fellow, Atlantic Council; Joshua P. Meltzer, Senior Fellow in the Global Economy and Development Program, The Brookings Institution.
