This roundtable brought together a select group of participants for an in-depth discussion with Elliot Gerson, Executive Vice President for Policy Programs and International Partners at The Aspen Institute, and Professor Jacob Hacker, Stanley B. Resor Professor of Political Science at Yale University, Co-Director of the Ludwig Program in Public Sector Leadership at Yale Law School, and American Political Economy Fellow at the American Academy in Berlin.
Drawing on their extensive experience in policy leadership and academic research, Gerson and Hacker offered insights into the evolving political landscape in Washington, D.C., and within the Democratic Party. The discussion examined polarization, institutional constraints, and shifting party dynamics, and what this means for the work of non-profit organizations, think tanks, and independent policy institutions. Participants also explored how these organizations are navigating a highly polarized environment, sustaining constructive debate, and contributing to informed policy development in a rapidly changing political context.
