On Thursday, November 28, Aspen Germany hosted a conference with Elmar Brok, former MEP (1980-2019), EPP/CDU, Author and Senior Fellow at the Aspen Institute Germany, as well as with Dr. Franziska Brantner, MdB, Leader of Alliance 90 / The Greens. In conversation with our Executive Director Dr. Stormy-Annika Mildner, Dr. Franziska Brantner, and Rüdiger Lentz, former Executive Director of the Aspen Institute Germany, Elmar Brok talked about his new book “Verspielt Europa nicht! Ohne die EU ist Deutschland ein Zwerg” and reflected on his time as an influential Member of the European Parliament. The speakers also gave their assessment of the current political situation in the EU after the European Elections in June this year. What has been Germany’s role in the EU and how will it evolve in future? How will the relationship between the EU and the United States develop in face of internal division and the electoral victory of Donald Trump? What can we expect from Ursula von der Leyen’s second term as EU Commission President in light of enormous challenges. These and other questions were discussed on Thursday, November 28.
