In the second virtual meeting of the “Future Cities Go Glocal” initiative, on December 3, 2024, participants understood the political structures of Berlin and Mexico City. Experts in governance provided insights into the fundamental political systems of both cities, with a focus on the role of cities in shaping policies and implementing change. This session was designed to equip participants with a deeper understanding of how urban governance functions in their peers’ cities, including the distribution of responsibilities between municipal, state, and national governments. Participants explored how varying political frameworks influence urban development, sustainability, and resilience, offering a comparative view of Berlin and Mexico City. This will foster a clear and more informed dialogue about the future of urban environments.
The project is supported by the Stiftung Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin.
