On December 03-04, 2024 the Aspen Institute Germany hosted its annual high-level Working Group Western Balkans in Berlin to conclude its Western Balkans Program 2024. The goal of this working group is to develop concrete policy recommendations as a result of the issues discussed throughout the Aspen Western Balkans conferences this year. The working group consisted of high-level government representatives from the Western Balkans, select experts as well as representatives from the EU, the German Government and Bundestag. With no more than 20 participants, the goal was to have an off-the-record, in-depth debate on the current state of EU integration. The key topics during the Aspen Germany conferences in 2024 included EU Enlargement and reconciliation. Moreover, the working group took stock of the current situation on external actors in the Western Balkans. The envisaged working group aimed to identify the next steps that should be taken by Western Balkans, German, and EU decision-makers and to develop concrete policy recommendations. This event was part of the “Western Balkans Initiative: Engagement for Progress and Stability” project, kindly supported by the German Federal Foreign Office.
