A Historic Gathering in Aspen, Colorado: Aspen Germany Celebrates 75 Years of the Aspen Institute

This year marks a historic milestone for the Aspen Institute and its global network of international partners. From June 24-29, 2025, representatives of all 13 international partners gathered in Aspen, Colorado for a week of meaningful exchange, celebration and forward-looking collaboration. Aspen Germany was honored to take part in this special occasion, represented by Transatlantic Program Director Katja Greeson.
The week opened with a reflective text-based seminar led by Todd Breyfogle, Senior Advisor for Humanistic Studies and Practices, exploring the founding ideals of the Aspen Institute mission and their enduring relevance in today’s world. This thoughtful session set the tone for the days ahead, framing the global role the Institute continues to play in fostering dialogue across divides and strengthening values-based leadership.
Throughout the week, Aspen Germany alongside other international partners had the opportunity to engage with program directors of Aspen United States in a series of dynamic discussions focused on deepening collaboration and exploring new areas for joint work. Highlights included conversations with leaders from ten U.S. programs and a roundtable with the Center for Rising Generations, which explored promising directions for youth leadership initiatives across the network.
The week culminated in the International Committee Meeting, where discussions centered on shared strategic priorities and the continued growth of the global network. The gathering also honored the life and legacy of Leonard Lauder, whose vision and generosity were instrumental in building the international Aspen community that now spans six continents. The meeting was followed by the Aspen Institute’s 75th Anniversary Gala, a joyful and memorable evening celebrating the Institute’s historic impact and future aims.
These special events took place alongside the Aspen Ideas Festival, which brings brilliant leaders and thinkers from around the globe to discuss the ideas that will shape tomorrow and help us understand today. Sessions ran the gamut from geopolitics, journalism, sports, and technology to opportunities to engage with the beautiful natural surroundings and engage with artists and musicians.
We extend our deepest gratitude to all who made this week possible – including our hosts from the Aspen International Partners team and fellow Aspen International Partners colleagues. Aspen Germany is grateful for the opportunity to form new connections and forge closer cooperations to further a shared commitment to advancing open, free, and just societies worldwide.
