    Public Program | Germany before the Election 2017 – A View from the Outside on the German Election. Four Foreign Correspondents on Merkel & Co.
    On September 20, 2017, the Aspen Institute Germany and Deutschlandfunk hosted a panel discussion with four foreign correspondents from the U.S., Great Britain, Poland, and France, moderated by Deutschlandfunk editor Burkhard Birke. Jeremy Cliffe, Berlin bureau chief for The Economist, Matthew Karnitschnig, chief Europe correspondent at Politico, Rosalia Romaniec, Polish journalist and managing editor East-Central Europe at Deutsche Welle, and Pascal Thibaut, correspondent at Radio France Internationale elaborated on central topics, challenges, and figures of the German election campaign from the perspectives of their respective countries. The debate revolved around the potential outcome of the election, Angela Merkel’s role in international politics, possible government coalitions, and the implications of an entry of the AfD into the German Bundestag.
