Not least since the COVID-19 pandemic, the European Union has reaffirmed its pursuit of digital sovereignty as one of its top priorities for the upcoming years. It is making great efforts to pioneer international norms and standards, particularly in the areas of data protection, regulation of large technology companies, and artificial intelligence. In doing so, the EU competes geopolitically with both China’s authoritarian approach to technology and the liberal approach of the United States. At the same time, the EU must ensure the interoperability of markets and data flows. The Digitalization and European Sovereignty focal area focuses on the EU’s strategic priorities in the global competition for digital standards.
Event Series: A Transatlantic Perspective on Digital Sovereignty
The event-series with German, European and U.S. American speakers focused on the industrial policy, regulatory, and individualist aspects of digital sovereignty.
