Digital Dish Series

The Aspen Institute Germany regularly organizes “Digital Dishes” in cooperation with Telefónica Germany that feature provocative thinkers for an intimate, off-the-record lunch or dinner in Berlin to discuss an issue related to the most pressing tech policy debates. The Dish Dish Series brings together a mix of frontier thinkers on tech policy and specialists focusing on the U.S.-European relationship. As such, the event series addresses trends, frictions, and successes in the transatlantic tech policy space and contextualizes issues in the broader U.S.-European relationship. Previous events have focused on, among other topics, transatlantic digital policy and approaches to authoritarian regimes, the future of EU-China tech relations, the future of European, transatlantic, and international cybersecurity, and the digital policy priorities of the German G7 presidency in 2022.

Previous guests include: Dr. Jörg Kukies, State Secretary at the Federal Chancellery and G7 Sherpa, Lars-Hendrik Röller, Professor for Economics at the European School of Management and Technology Berlin and former top economic advisor to Chancellor Merkel, Dieter Janecek, Member of the Bundestag (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen), Thomas Jarzombek, Member of the Bundestag (CDU), Nadine Schön, Member of the Bundestag (CDU), Thomas Heilmann, Member of the Bundestag (CDU), Christian Rickerts, former Berlin State Secretary and Head of Vonovia’s Berlin Office, Dr. Natalia Jaekel, Head of the Digitalization Unit at the Ministry of the Interior, Digitalization and Migration of the State of Baden-Württemberg, and Howard Dean, Independent Consultant and former Governor of Vermont, Dr. rer. pol. Annegret Bendiek, Deputy Research Group Leader for EU External Relations at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), Dr. Markus Kerber, Head of Department Strategy and Planning as well as Program and Analysis at the Konrad Adenauer House and former State Secretary, Dr. Nils Schmid, Member of the Bundestag (SPD), Iris Plöger, Member of the Executive Board at the Federation of German Industries (BDI).
