Public Program | Exclusive Roundtable Discussion on “America the Unpredictable: Do Allies and Partners Still Count?”
On June 28, 2019, the Aspen Institute Germany hosted an exclusive roundtable discussion on “America the Unpredictable: Do Allies and Partners Still Count?” with Ambassador Rick Burt, Former US Ambassador to Germany, and Prof. Daniel Hamilton, Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation Professor at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies. Our distinguished guests discussed the need for Germany to become better in defining and pursuing its interests as well as the increasingly perceived disconnect between Berlin and the rest of Europe. Further complicating the questions on the table, the participants focused on China’s increasing engagement on a global scale and possible repercussions for the transatlantic relationship. Nevertheless, all guests agreed that US-German relations remained a vital partnership that deserved all necessary efforts and the fullest support on both sides.
