Public Program | Exclusive Discussion on „Can the Republican Party Survive Trump?“
On September 18, 2019, the Aspen Institute Germany in cooperation with the American Academy in Berlin will host an exclusive discussion on “Can the Republican Party Survive Trump?” with David Frum, Staff Writer at The Atlantic and former Speechwriter for George W. Bush. With the quest for the democratic presidential nominee underway and a president piling up cash for his campaign "war room," the current political climate exposes an ever-widening rift between Republicans and Democrats. Increasingly, (Un-)American values seem to be linked to specific party preferences and positions. The question arises whether the Republican and the Democratic Party will succeed in formulating unifying messages on the campaign trail. Will the Republican Party break with its president on certain issues? And how will this affect Democrat's strategy en route to the White House? With a shifting domestic political landscape, repercussions on foreign affairs will yet have to be determined. David Frum, who has published widely on these questions, will help to assess the lasting impact Trump had and continues to have on the American presidency and the cornerstones of US democracy. The event is co-hosted by GÖRG Partnerschaft von Rechtsanwälten mbB.
