America is back on the world stage. This is especially true when it comes to climate policy. After President Trump aggressively refused to face the reality of climate change and reversed the United States‘ progress in reducing greenhouse gases with numerous measures, President Biden has announced a comprehensive climate protection program upon taking office. With John Kerry, a special presidential envoy for climate will sit on the National Security Council for the first time. This clearly underlines the importance the new administration attaches to the issue. Where does the United States stand after four years of Donald Trump? Will Biden find enough support for his ambitious program in Congress? And what opportunities and challenges will this bring for transatlantic cooperation on climate issues? The America’s Choice hosts Dr. David Deißner, Executive Director of the Atlantik-Brücke, and Dr. Stormy-Annika Mildner, Executive Director of the Aspen Institute Germany, will discuss these and other questions with Dr. Susanne Dröge, Senior Fellow, German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), and Prof. Dr. Miranda Schreurs, Chair of Environmental and Climate Policy, Bavarian School of Public Policy, Technical University of Munich.
