Just two weeks before the presidential election, the campaigns of President Trump and his challenger Joe Biden are focusing on the swing states that will decide the race to the White House. While some states are traditionally blue or red states that vote consistently for the Democrat or Republican party, the swing states are the real battlegrounds in presidential elections. What are the important swing states in 2020 and why? How has the political landscape of swing states developed over recent years? What do the current polls suggest and which voter groups will be decisive in these states? Rüdiger Lentz, Executive Director at the Aspen Institute Germany, and David Deißner, Executive Director of Atlantik-Brücke, are joined by Rieke Havertz, U.S. correspondent at ZEIT Online, and Dr. Jackson Janes, President Emeritus at AICGS and Senior Fellow at GMFUS, to discuss these questions surrounding the 2020 U.S. election.
“America’s Choice – Der US-Wahlcast” is a German-language podcast on the 2020 U.S. election, co-produced by the Aspen Institute Germany and the Atlantik-Brücke. The podcast is available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other platforms.
