From June 15 to 18, 2017, the Aspen Institute Germany held its 19th Leadership Seminar “Philosophy and Practice.” Led by expert moderators Carol Gluck and Florian Jehle and based on classical and modern texts of renowned philosophers and thinkers, the seminar convenes a small circle of high ranking decision-makers to reflect and discuss the most fundamental questions of the human condition. In a confidential atmosphere, tucked away from the demands of daily routine, 14 decision-makers were given the space to tackle the most universal facets of the human existence, including the role of the individual, the relationship of individual freedom and the order of society, as well as the limits of power. The Seminar is especially recognized for its diversity of participants representing different areas of society not only from Germany but from across Europe.
