    • November 08, 2018

On November 8, 2018, the Aspen Institute Germany hosted a Background Briefing on the US Midterm Elections with Benjamin Wolfmeier, Member of Republicans Overseas Germany e.V., and Diego Rivas, Chapter Chair of Democrats Abroad in Berlin. The discussion targeted the election outcomes and opportunities arising out of the election results for both the Democratic and the Republican Party as well as for the Trump administration. In addition, current trends, such as the significantly higher voter turnout in comparison with 2014 and the increased proportion of women in Congress, were discussed. After input statements by Benjamin Wolfmeier and Diego Rivas, Jacob Schrot, Chief to Staff to Dr. Stephan Harbarth (Member of Bundestag, CDU/CSU) and Dr. Dietlind Tiemann (Member of Bundestag, CDU/CSU) and Founder of the Young Transatlantic Initiative, moderated the discussion with all participants.
