Background Discussion on “Political Challenges for the German Government: The Western Balkans and the New Enlargement Strategy of the European Commission”

On March 21, 2018 the Aspen Institute Germany together with the Democratization Policy Council (DPC) hosted a background discussion on “Political Challenges for the German Government: The Western Balkans and the New Enlargement Strategy of the European Commission”. The aim of this closed event was to discuss political challenges in the region with representatives from government and parliament and experts after the new European Commission’s enlargement strategy was published and before the new German government will take office. The discussion was opened with statements by Gunther Krichbaum, MP, Chairman of the European Affairs Committee, Josip Juratovic, MP, Ambassador Christian Hellbach, Special Envoy for Southeast Europe, Turkey and the EFTA states in the Federal Foreign Office, as well as Bodo Weber, board member of the Democratization Policy Council.
