On March 11, 2019, the Aspen Institute Germany in cooperation with Dussmann das KulturKaufhaus hosted a book presentation and discussion with Martin Klingst, Senior Political Correspondent at Die Zeit. Klingst spoke about his new book “Trumps Amerika: Reise in ein Weißes Land” (Trump’s America: Journey to a White Country). In an interview with Rüdiger Lentz, Executive Director of the Aspen Institute Germany, and after words of welcome by Catherine von Fürstenberg-Dussmann, Klingst read key passages and discussed main theses from his trip report on the Midwest. By portraying different U.S. citizens who voted for Trump in 2016 Klingst emphasized the range of social groups in the “flyover states” Trump successfully approached over the course of his presidential campaign.
