On October 14, 2019, the Aspen Institute Germany hosted a Brown Bag Lunch on the topic “Made in China? From a New Economic System to a New Global Order” with Dr. Theo Sommer, author and former editor-in-chief and publisher DIE ZEIT, and Hanna Katharina Müller, Head of Division “Political models of order and militant democracy,” Federal Ministry of the Interior, for Building und Community. The discussion focused on the various implications of the People’s Republic’s increasingly confident claim to international leadership. In an interview with Rüdiger Lentz, Executive Director of the Aspen Institute Germany, Dr. Theo Sommer and Hanna Katharina Müller shared their views on China’s economic, social, and military transformation in recent years and decades. Afterwards, all participants discussed controversially the future role of China in the world as well as how to respond appropriately on a national and European level.
