Digital Dish: “Media Integrity in Times of Digitalization and Elections”

This next event in the Digital Dish series focused on the role of traditional and new media in today’s information environment, and the responsibilities of those distributing content to the public. Digitalization has broadened the availability of information, and we no longer rely on just newspapers or traditional media to get our news. Information on the latest happenings locally and worldwide is widely available, but media literacy rates are lower than expected. Therefore, the question becomes, what is the role of media and what are the responsibilities of journalists, broadcasters, social media platforms, and individual content creators, especially during crises or large national events (like elections). This was discussed within the frame of the EU elections which will have just taken place and the upcoming U.S.-elections. We were pleased to welcome Dr. Eva Flecken, Director of Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg und Chairperson of the Direktorenkonferenz der Medienanstalten; Tim Klaws, Head of Government Relations & Public Policy DACH, Southern Europe and Israel at TikTok; Caroline König, Head of the “Political Information” Department at the Press and Information Office of the Federal Government; and Christoph Rauwald, Bureau Chief Germany at Bloomberg News.
