Digital Dish: The German G7 Presidency 2022 – Shaping Power in the Face of Global Digital Policy Challenges

    • May 19, 2022

On May 19, 2022, the Aspen Institute Germany and Telefónica Germany hosted a “Digital Dish” on “The German G7 Presidency 2022 – Shaping Power in the Face of Global Digital Policy Challenges” with Dr. Jörg Kukies, State Secretary at the Federal Chancellery and G7 Sherpa. The event was moderated by Dr. Stormy-Annika Mildner, Director of the Aspen Institute Germany.
Following the motto “Progress for a Just World,” Germany has assumed the presidency of the G7 group of countries in 2022 and is committed to advancing digital progress in an inclusive global digital order. In addition to important priorities such as cross-border data exchange and action in cyberspace, the German government wants to promote the setting of standards and norms based on democratic values – and thus strikes at the heart of the geopolitical international competition for digital space.
How can we succeed in strengthening value-based international cooperation in digital space? What are the key hurdles that need to be overcome, and what contribution can the G7 countries make? What role can Germany in particular play? How does Germany regards itself as a player in the international digital space?
Together with a small group of selected participants, we discussed these and many other questions.
