Discussion: “Foreign and Security Policy Challenges for the US and Germany”

    • December 03, 2019

On December 3, 2019, the Aspen Institute Germany hosted an evening event on “Foreign and Security Policy Challenges for the US and Germany” with Ian Brzezinski, Senior Fellow with the Transatlantic Security Initiative at the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security and former Deputy Assistant State Secretary of Defense for Europe and NATO, and Dr. Karl-Heinz Kamp, Special Envoy for the Political Director at the Federal Ministry of Defense. The two experts discussed the current security challenges against the background of the return of great power competition, NATO’s strategic orientation and current US foreign policy. The importance of transatlantic relations in coping with these global challenges was stressed, as was the need for greater European and German engagement.
