Exclusive Discussion on „Can the Republican Party Survive Trump?“

    • September 18, 2019

On September 18, 2019, the Aspen Institute Germany in cooperation with the American Academy in Berlin hosted an exclusive lunch discussion on “Can the Republican Party Survive Trump?” with David Frum, Staff Writer at The Atlantic and former Speechwriter for President George W. Bush. With the quest for the democratic presidential nominee underway and a president piling up cash for his campaign “war room,” the ever-widening rift between Republicans and Democrats provided ample material for a fruitful discussion. Will the Republican and the Democratic Party succeed in formulating unifying messages on the campaign trail – and will the Republican Party break with its president on certain issues?  David Frum, who has published widely on these questions, helped to shed light on the lasting impact Trump had and continues to have on the American presidency and the cornerstones of US democracy. Further, he took a look at the current top tier of Democratic candidates and discussed the role of voter demographics in the upcoming presidential elections. The event was co-hosted by GÖRG Partnerschaft von Rechtsanwälten mbB.
