On February 13, 2024, the Aspen Institute Germany hosted the first virtual workshop of the German-American Trade and Tech Dialogue 2023-2024. The first workshop focused on the topic of “Transatlantic Trade in 2024: The latest on the Critical Minerals Agreement, the Global Arrangement on Sustainable Steel and Aluminum, and the effects of the IRA”. The workshop began with introductory remarks and a panel discussion, and was followed by an open discussion with all participants.
We were pleased to welcome Rupert Schlegelmilch, Director of Trade Relations with the U.S., Canada, and European Neighborhood Countries at the European Commission’s Directorate General for Trade, Dan Froats, Economic Counselor at the U.S. Mission to the EU, Gefion Hven, Senior Advisor International Affairs and Trade Policy for Robert Bosch GmbH, L. Daniel Mullaney, Nonresident Senior Fellow, Atlantic Council and former US Trade Representative (AUSTR) for Europe and the Middle East, Luisa Santos, Deputy Director General at BusinessEurope and Dr. Charlotte Unger, Senior Research Associate for Climate Action in National and International Processes Research at the Institute for Sustainability – Helmholtz Centre Potsdam for the workshop.
The GATTD is a strategic dialogue on the transatlantic trade and tech agenda, fostering understanding and trust among key transatlantic policy-makers as well as business, academia, and civil society representatives. Through regular meetings over the course of 2023-2024, decision-makers exchange views on central developments and challenges with the aim of developing solutions and identifying areas for cooperation.
