German-American Trade and Tech Dialogue 2023-2024: Workshop 2

On June 6, 2024, the Aspen Institute Germany will host the second virtual workshop of the German-American Trade and Tech Dialogue 2023-2024. At a time when crucial elections on both sides of the Atlantic will shape the future of the transatlantic relationship, the German-American Trade and Tech Dialogue (GATTD) process provides ample opportunity to discuss approaches to, and areas of, cooperation. Under the overarching theme, “Transatlantic Economic Relations in the Super Election Year”, the second virtual meeting of the GATTD 2023-2024 cycle will take a look at comprehensive look at the last TTC meeting and include breakout sessions on the following topics: 1. Transatlantic Cooperation for Energy Security and Competitiveness; and 2. The Return of Geopolitics to Tech Regulation. We are pleased to welcome the following speakers and moderators: Courtney Austrian, Director of the Office of European Union and Regional Affairs within State Department’s Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs (EUR/ERA); Ansgar Baums, Helmut Schmidt Fellow, German Marshall Fund; PD Dr. habil. Annegret Bendiek, Senior Fellow, EU/Europe, German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP); Guido Brinkel, Head of Regulatory Policy and Director of Corporate Affairs, Microsoft; Hayley Gillooly, Senior Advisor, Office of Multilateral Climate and Clean Energy Engagement, Office of International Affairs, U.S. Department of Energy; Adrienne Goldstein, Senior Program Coordinator, GMF Tech, German Marshall Fund; Dr. Andreas Goldthau, Director & Franz Haniel Chair for Public Policy, Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the University of Erfurt; Dr. Stormy-Annika Mildner, Executive Director, Aspen Institute Germany; Ronan Murphy, Director, Digital Innovation Initiative, Center for European Policy Analysis; Jane Nakano, Senior Fellow, Energy Security and Climate Change Program, Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS); Dr. Dorothee Schneider, Minister Counselor, Head of Economic and Trade Section, German Embassy Washington; Felix Seebach, Vice President, Head of Corporate Government Relations, BASF; Dr. Philip Steinberg, Director General for Economic Stabilisation, Energy Security, Gas and Hydrogen Infrastructure, Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action; Bryant Trick, Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Europe and the Middle East, Office of the United States Trade Representative; Dr. Elisabeth Winter, Programme Director Global Markets and Social Justice, Bundeskanzler-Helmut-Schmidt-Stiftung. The GATTD is a strategic dialogue on the transatlantic trade and tech agenda, fostering understanding and trust among key transatlantic policy-makers as well as business, academia, and civil society representatives. Through regular meetings over the course of 2023-2024, decision-makers exchange views on central developments and challenges with the aim of developing solutions and identifying areas for cooperation.
