On 12 September, 2023, the Aspen Institute Germany hosted the third virtual workshop of the German-American Trade and Tech Dialogue (GATTD). The third workshop was dedicated to the topic “Climate, Energy, and Green Industrial Policy – Cooperation and Conflict in the Transatlantic Partnership”. The workshop began with an introductory keynote address and a panel discussion, followed by an open discussion with all participants.
We thank our four distinguished speakers for their participation and valuable input: Rupert Schlegelmilch, Director at DG Trade, EU Commission; Tony Fernandes, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Trade Policy and Negotiations, Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs, U.S. Department of State; Dr. Christian Forwick, Sub-Division Head for External economic policy, trade policy, Americas, German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK); and Peter Rashish, Vice President and Director of the Geoeconomics Program at Johns Hopkins University’s American-German Institute.
The GATTD is a strategic dialogue on the transatlantic trade and tech agenda, fostering understanding and trust among key transatlantic policy-makers as well as business, academia, and civil society representatives. Through regular meetings over the course of 2022 and 2023, decision-makers exchange views on central developments and challenges with the aim of developing solutions and identifying areas for cooperation.
